Something's off. Let's fix it lazily.

macOS keeps asking for Screen Recording, even though Lazy as is ON
The quick way:
- Open Lazy as Settings › Setup.
- Click Fix next to Screen Recording. It clears the stale entry and macOS asks again.
- Turn Lazy as on in the macOS dialog or in System Settings.
- Click Relaunch.
The manual way:
- Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording.
- Select Lazy as and click − to remove it.
- Click + and add
Lazy as.appfrom Applications. - Quit and reopen Lazy as.
Why: macOS remembers the exact build it approved. After an update, or if an older copy is lying around (say, in Downloads), the old switch stays ON while the copy you're running gets refused. Keep one copy, in Applications.
Nothing gets transcribed
- Check Settings › Setup: Microphone and Speech Recognition both need a green tick. If one says Allow, click it.
- Check Settings › Capture › Microphone. Automatic uses your Mac's own mic whenever AirPods, other Bluetooth headphones or your iPhone are the Mac's mic (their mics drop out and turn music into call quality). The note under it says which mic you're on. If the HUD says it can't hear anything, pick your mic there.
- On version 1.4 or older with AirPods? Update to 1.5: older versions listened through the AirPods' mic, and the stream could cut out and leave notes empty.
- Check the language in Settings › Capture matches what you're speaking.
- On Private transcription, your language needs to be marked ⚡︎ (supported on this Mac). Otherwise switch Transcription to Best accuracy.
Still nothing? Quit and reopen Lazy as, then try a short session. If it still fails, send us the log (see Support).
My note only kept a word or two
That was a bug in versions before 1.3: a long note could lose everything but its last phrase, sometimes shrinking to a single word. It's fixed. Update from the download page. Lazy as now transcribes the whole session continuously, with no time limit, and keeps long notes in full.
"Next note" didn't split
- Watch the HUD pill. It shows the note you're on (#3) and flashes "#3 saved. Now on #4." when a note closes. No flash means it didn't hear you.
- Say it clearly, on its own: "next note" (or "new note", "next point").
- Noisy room? Just press ⌃X. It does the same thing and only works while you're recording.
- Check Voice commands is on in Settings › Capture.
Pauses don't split notes anymore, on purpose. If you want them to, set Also start a new note after a silence of to 4, 6 or 10 seconds.
The screenshot shows the wrong spot
Lazy as photographs where the pointer is when you start talking, and again when you start talking after a pause of 3 seconds or more. Put the pointer on the thing, then talk. If you start talking while still moving, or scroll right then, it waits for the pointer to settle and shoots that instead.
Talking about several things without pausing gives one screenshot. Pause for a breath of 3 seconds (or say "next note") before moving on, or set the pause to 2 seconds in Settings › Capture. Need it exact? Snip with ⌃⇧Z.
It transcribed the video, not me
You're on speakers, so the microphone hears the video too and writes it down as your comment. Wear headphones when reviewing anything with sound. Lazy as warns you about this when a session starts on built-in speakers.
Fixing a word after the fact: menu bar › Review sessions…, click the note, edit. Edits save automatically.
After an update, macOS asks to let Lazy as use its saved key
That's the macOS Keychain double-checking before Lazy as reads your saved API key or Claude token. Click Always Allow. It may ask once after each update, since early builds aren't signed by Apple yet.
"Sign-in expired" or "not signed in"
- Open Settings › AI.
- Click Sign in next to your AI and approve in the browser with your own account. For Claude on a Mac, click Connect my Claude and let Lazy as pick up the new token.
- Click Test it to confirm.
Until you reconnect, "Make it a prompt" falls back to the offline cleaner so you still get something to paste.
Usage limit reached
Your AI plan has hit its limit for now. Lazy as automatically falls back to the offline cleaner and tells you so. Options: wait for your limit to reset, pick another AI in Settings › AI, use Open in AI chat, or stay on the offline cleaner.
"Your plan doesn't include it"
ChatGPT's Codex needs ChatGPT Plus or higher, and Claude Code needs Claude Pro or Max. On a plan without it, pick Gemini (free with a personal Google account) or GitHub Copilot (Copilot Free works) in Settings › AI. Or skip the setup and use Open in AI chat, which works with every chat on every plan.
A shortcut doesn't fire
- Open Settings › Setup › Shortcuts. If another app owns the keys, you'll see "Another app already uses …" under it.
- Click the shortcut and press a new combination (it needs ⌃ or ⌘, unless it's an F-key).
- Using a Logitech gesture? Update it in Logi Options+ to send the new shortcut too.
Notes have no screenshots
- Screen Recording isn't working yet. The HUD says "Screenshots off" when this happens.
- Allow it in Settings › Setup, then click Relaunch Lazy as. macOS only applies it after a relaunch.
- Still nothing after relaunching? Do the Screen Recording fix.
The page address is missing
- Make sure Record the browser page address is on in Settings › Capture.
- It works in Chrome, Safari, Arc, Edge and Brave.
- If you clicked "Don't Allow" when macOS asked, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security › Automation, find Lazy as and switch your browser on.
The menu bar icon is gone
On notched MacBooks a crowded menu bar can hide it behind the camera. Hold ⌘ and drag menu bar icons to make room, or quit a few menu bar apps. Lazy as still works without the icon: ⌃Z starts a session and opening it from Spotlight shows Settings.
macOS won't open the app
"Apple could not verify…" means the early build isn't notarized yet. Click Done, then System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down, click Open Anyway next to Lazy as and confirm. On macOS 14 you can also right-click the app › Open. Step by step in the install guide.
Windows won't run the installer
- "Windows protected your PC" means the early build isn't code-signed yet. Click More info, then Run anyway.
- If your browser blocked the download, open its downloads list and choose Keep.
- Work computer that blocks unsigned apps? That's your IT department's call. Ask them, or try it on another computer for now.
Windows: nothing gets transcribed
- Open Windows Settings › Privacy & security › Microphone and switch on Microphone access and Let desktop apps access your microphone.
- The first session downloads the speech model, so it needs the internet once. The HUD says "Loading speech recognition" while it does.
- Check which mic Lazy as uses in its Settings. Automatic skips Bluetooth headset mics, which sound like a phone call.
Windows or Linux: no tray icon
Windows hides new tray icons behind the ^ arrow next to the clock. Drag Lazy as onto the taskbar, or turn it on in Windows Settings › Personalization › Taskbar › Other system tray icons. Linux on GNOME needs the AppIndicator extension: Ubuntu has it on already, on Fedora install "AppIndicator and KStatusNotifierItem Support". The shortcuts work even without the icon.
Linux: no screenshots or shortcuts
You're most likely in a Wayland session, which doesn't let apps capture other windows or listen for global shortcuts. Log out, click your name, then the gear button, and pick Ubuntu on Xorg (or your desktop's X11 session). Also check the helpers from Install on Linux are installed.
Uninstall completely
- Quit Lazy as from its menu bar icon.
- Drag
Lazy as.appfrom Applications to the Trash. - If you want your sessions gone too, delete
~/Documents/LazyAs(or wherever you moved it). - Remove its settings in Terminal:
defaults delete com.lazyas.app
Saved an API key or Claude token? Open Keychain Access, search for com.lazyas.app and delete those entries. The log lives at ~/Library/Logs/LazyAs.log if you want that gone too. On Windows or Linux, see Update or remove.
None of the above? Email us from the Support page and attach the log: ~/Library/Logs/LazyAs.log on a Mac, %LOCALAPPDATA%\LazyAs\LazyAs.log on Windows, ~/.local/share/LazyAs/LazyAs.log on Linux. It helps a lot, and it doesn't contain your screenshots.
